About Us
CKPR Thunder Bay has been this region’s TV station since 1954. Today, we run the most popular programs through our affiliation with CTV along with local news, sports, and weather and seasonally-produced specials highlighting what makes N.W.O. so unique.
The community of Thunder Bay and those throughout Northwestern Ontario have always relied on us for a full roster of local and regional news and information programming. From our 6 o’clock and late casts, to our review and feature short programs, the local presence is solid on our stations seven days a week, keeping our viewers informed and engaged in their community.
With its deep roots in the community, CKPR Thunder Bay has been a leader in championing hundreds of non-profit groups and organizations. It has continuously spearheaded numerous community initiatives and supported local programs.
In 1976, CKPR launched the annual Cystic Fibrosis Mother’s Day Telethon which ran for 31 years, raising millions of dollars for CF research. Local talent has been highlighted with news coverage and specialty shows such as Up & Coming, while Around Town continues to give a voice to local community programs and fundraising efforts.
On average, local television supports this region’s non-profits to the tune of over $650,000 per year. And as always, we are there in times of need such as the snow storm of ’96 or the spring floods of 2012 to support our community and keep our viewers safe and informed.
