The Dew Drop Inn has been feeding the hungry in Thunder Bay for over 38 years now. We provide a hot lunch service daily and a warm, welcoming place where hungry men, women and children can come to eat with no questions asked. On an average day we now feed about 250 people.

It has been a year now since we started to see a dramatic increase in the number of meals we serve each day. With these higher numbers we had to rethink how we do things and had to rearrange our entire dining room. We needed to add more volunteers to our daily roster and increase the amount of food we prepare. Our outdated stoves needed an upgrading and we purchased a new stove and replaced the other with a convection oven to cook our food more quickly and efficiently. We bought a new, larger walk-in cooler which was installed in our basement to accommodate the increase in our incoming perishables. Finally, we have experienced a significant increase in our operating costs. It has been a challenging year for us. 2018 we served 79,910 meals which does not include seconds. We rely on the support of the community and do not receive government funding.

At the Dew Drop Inn we realize that people need to have better access to food, the affordability to purchase it and the dignity to make their own choices. We also realize that until solutions are found to the rising number of food insecurities it is not appropriate to let men, women and children go hungry. Everyone deserves a good meal.
